When the sensor detects sudden acceleration, a drop, or an abrupt impact, the software instantly "parks" the read/write heads of the hard drive. By moving the heads off the platter, it prevents them from violently scraping across the magnetic disk surface, which would cause immediate data loss and permanent physical damage to the drive. Once the motion stops, the DriveGuard software instantly releases the heads, allowing normal operation to resume.
